Okay - it is definitely time to stop the procrastination!!! Do you know what has been on my to do list for the last 8-10 months and has never gotten done? Simply to send a friendly Thinking of You card to all my past clients. Emails are great but a card in the mail is even better. It is just a special added touch to keeping in touch with your past clients.

I woke up early this morning - everyone else was asleep - I thought I would go get the few things I needed at Walmart. As I walked in - I was in the produce section - I glanced over and spotted a familiar face. We caught eyes for a brief second. I am pretty sure he was talking to someone on the phone - he was smiling and he had an earpiece in his ear. After I had turned away I remembered who he was - he was one of my favorite clients I had last November/December who happened to be very happy with me. Him and his wife were sweethearts and I just loved working with them. They told me back then they were going to tell all their friends about me. They were just great!! He didn't even recognize me today - I felt really bad. I was then on to the next isle deeply regretting the fact that I hadn't sent that card I have been wanting to send to him and his wife for so long. I could have emailed them easily (I had done that once or twice shortly after closing) but I wanted to send a card instead. I then spotted him again as I came out of another isle - I thought - this is my chance. What a perfect time to have that personal contact that is so important! I immediately said - Clayton!! How are you? There was some small talk including him saying he has been giving out my name to people (which was just great!) At one point I had said - yea - I have been meaning to get in contact with you guys to see how you're doing - He then said -yea - I thought you fell off the face of the earth. WHAT?? I knew it was true but I surely didn't want to hear those bad words come out of one of my clients mouths. That did it!! No more of my clients will wonder what happened to me - no one will ever wonder if I fell off the face of the earth again. I am keeping in contact and it is going to be a priority. It should be!!! I have always known that and my intentions were always to do that but time gets the best of you and it flies by - days go by - then months - then a year - then 2 years.

Our Canadian Thanksgiving is early October so that is my opportunity to make up for anyone, or anything, that slipped thru the cracks of a busy summer! I have thank you cards printed up and arrange for pumpkins to be picked up from my home. I used to have them delivered but I missed seeing alot of people who wern't home. I have my home nicely decorated and it becomes more homey and personal to have them drop by with their kids and dogs. Very "Andy of Mayberry-like" :0)
Thanks for the timely reminder Tick Tock
Lisa, you are so right, staying in contact with your past customers is your best chance of getting new customers through referrals. I also use those "other" holidays to stay in contact, you the ones when not everyone else sends out cards and yours gets lost in the shuffle. Birthday cards are great too if you know their birthdays or "anniversary" cards for when they closed on their home! All the best!
Susan & Silvia,
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond to my post. Wow a pumpkin pick-up (very Nice)
Birthday cards is a great idea. I try and cut out articles from our local newspaper and send to acquaintances that have made the paper for whatever reason.
Thanks again,
Lisa Rees
Hi Lisa, cutting out newspaper clips is an excellent idea! I don't think too many people do it. I received just such a card a while ago from a mortgage person when I had an announcement of a designation in the paper and I was so thrilled! I don't even know her but you bet, I will remember her for a possible referral!
You ROCK my friend!! A call and a card, that's all it takes!
